On Wednesday, we went to Ashton Assisted Living to help with a Luau. We got into “costume” when we arrived. Grass skirts and leis. There were many decorations around the dining room and common areas. Live music (keyboard, drums and vocals) played many of the Hawaiian or beach themed favorites. What did our team do? A conga line broke out a few times, some line dancing, the limbo and lots of dancing. We saw the residents smiling and enjoying it all.
I knew “Cricket” from our visits here last week. I went over to her and asked if she would like to do the limbo with me. She agreed, and we went through the limbo line together. Of course, the bar was raised up so we could get under it easily. She gave me the biggest hug after we went through.
The team had made bookmarks earlier. They gave Cricket one. On it was “count your blessings”. Later she took us to see her room. On her door was a wreath with a sign, “count your blessings”. It was a confirming moment for us to realize God orchestrates things we are unaware of, but then He shows us.
Before we left that day, she told me we had brought her joy.
